Meet My Husband

Today is my husband Jonathan’s 35th birthday. I love Jonathan because he’s funny, ambitious, talented, adventurous, and smart. He speaks Italian fluently and has an uncanny ability to suss out a good restaurant just by looking at it. He works as a web developer and spends his weekends rock climbing, running, and mountaineering. To celebrate his birthday I thought I would introduce him with a few questions to help you get to know him a little bit better!

What were some of your favourite moments from 34? The best moment from 34 was getting married to you. Some other great ones were climbing Mount Baker and splashing around on the beach on our honeymoon. Also, when we were in Kauai I went running on the beach as the sun came up and then went for a morning swim after to cool off.

Any plans for 35? I plan on running my second marathon.

What is your favourite food? I have to choose one thing? If I have to choose, Japanese food is my favourite. Right now I’m really into spicy nabeyaki udon soup with gluten free soba noodles. I also really like spicy tuna rolls and deep fried California rolls. Now I want sushi.

What is your favourite wine? I love red wines. Burrowing Owl Cabernet Franc is one of my favourites. I also love Mission Hill Reserve Shiraz. Hester Creek’s Character red is great and it’s always a crowd pleaser.

What do you consider your worst habits? I like to eat a lot of junk food.

What are my habits that you can’t stand? It’s a trap. <long pause>. Sometimes you can be a little bit fussy about things. You seem to obsess over details that don’t matter. Like you think something’s not clean but it’s actually really clean. Are you mad now?

What is something that you’re afraid of? Letting myself down. I was an overweight child and was bullied a lot for it. The bullying held me back from feeling confident and trying new things. I’m afraid if I let myself down I will wind up feeling the same way I did back then so I push myself really hard to reach my goals. Also, I’m afraid of snakes.

What is your guilty pleasure? Junk food. Especially sweets. Ben and Gerry’s Half Baked is my favourite.

What is something from your bucket list that you’ve already ticked off? Visiting Thailand. I’ve always wanted to go there since I was 19 and it was still an obscure thing to do. Now it’s a pretty popular destination. It lived up to all my expectations and I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner.

What is something from your bucket list that you haven’t done yet? I really want to learn to ski and do a ski traverse across a major mountain range in BC.
