Today is Jonathan and my 9 year anniversary! Last week I was going through some old pictures and I came across this one of us at Arches National Park in 2010. We visited the park as part of a road trip we took that summer and had planned a couple of hikes for the park and the surrounding area. We were both especially looking forward to our hike to Delicate Arch, however once we got to the trail head I had a little bit of a melt down. There were warning signs posted at the trail head about the difficult trail conditions, part of which involved “traversing a rock ledge”. I was petrified and ready to abandon the whole thing and return to the safety of the hotel room where I had a stack of fashion magazines and some left over pizza waiting for me. Jonathan managed to calm me down and convince me to at least try the hike. He promised we’d turn back if the rock ledge was too scary and assured me that I could do it. Sure enough the hike was pretty easy and the rock ledge was the size of a very wide sidewalk. Delicate Arch was spectacular and totally worth the hike. I’m so grateful that Jonathan patiently calmed me down and encouraged me to push through my fear so that I could experience this amazing place with him. In the 9 years we’ve been together Jonathan has broadened my horizons and introduced me to so many wonderful things. I’m so lucky to have a partner who supports me and encourages me to try new things. I can’t wait to embark on our new adventure as husband and wife 2 months from now!
