Last week my boyfriend Jonathan proposed to me! It was romantic and completely unexpected. We were in Whistler for the Labour Day long weekend and Jonathan really wanted to hike the High Note, a trail that starts at the top of Whistler mountain and wraps around the peak. To access the trail head we rode the lifts up Blackcomb mountain and then took the Peak to Peak Gondola to Whistler mountain. By the time we got to the top the morning sun was completely gone and we found ourselves in a thick fog. It was freezing cold up in the clouds and Jonathan asked if I wanted to turn back. Grabbing a hot chocolate and going back to the warmth of the hotel seemed like an appealing option at this point but we’d come all this way and Jonathan seemed so excited. So we continued on as planned (now I’m so glad we did!) Although we didn’t have much of a view thanks to the fog, it was still a beautiful hike. I’ve been on a few of these rocky high alpine trails and they always make me feel like I’m on the moon or something. About 20 minutes in Jonathan suggested we stop for a break and pulled a bottle of champagne out of his backpack. This may be hard to believe, but I didn’t suspect a thing. I didn’t actually clue into what was happening until he was down on one knee with the ring in hand. We called our parents right there on top of the mountain to share our exciting news, of course they already knew. Jonathan had gone to see my Dad to ask for his blessing and my Mom and sister had helped him choose the ring. This past week has been a blur of celebrations with family and friends. Now that things have settled down a little bit it’s time to start planning our wedding!
